Join us in person or via Zoom.

Dr. González is a professor in the Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies in the College of Education. Dr. González´s selection and participation as the scholar includes a lecture to the greater UA community and a 5 week residency in Guanajuato, México teaching an interdisciplinary colloquy in collaboration with international faculty at the University of Guanajuato, engaging in associated academic activities with the greater Guanajuato community and working with families, children and community at Resplandor International.

Dr. González will uncover the historical legacies of limited educational opportunities experienced by bilingual Latina/o/x high school students labeled with disabilities (LWD) due to deficit-oriented understandings of the intersections of disability and language. This presentation examines how Diego, a bilingual Latino LWD, used testimonio as a speculative tool to reimagine educational possibilities rooted in his experience, and draws on cripistemology and cultural historical activity theory.

An in-person reception in honor of Dr. González will be held after the lecture.
