Salas de Libros/Literacy Cafés for Tucson’s LGBTQ+ Community
October 17, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Salas de Libros/Literacy Cafés are an innovative, multi-generational community literacy project for children, teens and adults.
The Fall 2019 Salas will focus on readings by and about LGBTQ+ communities. These Salas will be an opportunity for youth and young adults who identify queer, trans, non-binary and/or LGBTQ+ and family members and friends to build community around young adult fiction, non-fiction and graphic novels that reflect our diverse lives and experiences.
Please join us for an exploratory Sala on Thursday, Oct. 17 at the El Rio Neighborhood Center (Pottery Room) from 6-8pm to learn about this exciting new project. Our hope is that you will decide to participate in the subsequent Salas.
During Salas, we will browse and share LGBTQ+ books, respond and talk about poems and short stories, play literary games, and immerse ourselves in good books and great conversations. We will also have time to socialize over light snacks and beverages.
If you’re interested in joining the Salas, you will be able to borrow books to be returned the next time we meet. If you can’t make it to this first Sala, you can always join us on the following dates:
Where: El Rio Neighborhood Center, Pottery Room. 1390 W. Speedway Boulevard • Tucson AZ 85745
