Imagination Friday with Duncan Tonatiuh
November 14 @ 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm
On Friday, November 14, 1:00 to 1: 45, meet author/illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh and hear about his new picturebook, Vida: The Mice, the Cat and the Alebrije. This original fable, inspired by Mexican folk art, is about a city named Mousetepec, full of music and joy, until the dark shadow of un gato appears and everyone is terrorized by the cat. Duncan will share his book and invite children to confront the “shadows” in their lives. Also available in Spanish.
Host: Kathy Short, Professor of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies and Director of WOW.
Panelist: Duncan Tonatiuh
Co-Sponsor: Tucson Festival of Books
Duncan Tonatiuh is an award-winning author-illustrator. He is both Mexican and American. He grew up in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and graduated from Parsons School of Design and Eugene Lang College in New York City. His artwork is inspired by Pre-Columbian art, particularly that of the Mixtec codices. His aim is to create images and stories that honor the past, but that are relevant to people, specially children, nowadays.
Imagination Friday is co-sponsored by the Tucson Festival of Books and Worlds of Words, University of Arizona College of Education and occurs one Friday a month from 1 to 1:40 p.m. through December 2025 with a different author or illustrator each session. Add some excitement to Fridays with world-renowned children’s authors and illustrator to promote new books and encourage children as readers, writers and illustrators.
