By Lacey Nehls, Project Management Intern, Worlds of Words
Take one giant leap into literature with Worlds of Words at the Tucson Festival of Books. WOW and the UofA College of Education engage festival goers of all ages to space-related literature and hands-on activities in Booth 330. The Tucson Festival of Books takes place Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3.
“Worlds of Words is all about promoting global perspectives, and we will go to infinity and beyond by making space slime with young people in our tent this year,” says Lacey Nehls, Project Management Intern for WOW. “Space slime allows kids to tell stories through tactile experience. It is going to be a fun—and probably messy.”
Visitors to the WOW/COE tent will enjoy read alouds from books such as One Giant Leap, The Man Who Went to the Far Side of the Moon and Sharing The Skies: Navajo Astronomy. Tent volunteers will also share information about free teacher resources such as WOW’s Language and Culture Kits and Global Story Boxes. Kits and Boxes on display feature China, Russia and India, countries where three of the Big Six space agencies are located. COE undergraduates staffing the tent will answer questions about their college experience studying education. Don’t space out; check out Booth 330, just south of the UofA COE building.
“Worlds of Words has been a festival exhibitor from the beginning,” says Rebecca Ballenger, Coordinator of Outreach and Collection for Worlds of Words. “We wouldn’t miss this opportunity to represent the College of Education and show off the important work and resources at WOW.”
The Tucson Festival of Books will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on March 2 and 3. Join Worlds of Words to have a super SPACEcial time. WOW is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., but will be closed during the festival. For more information, contact wow@email.arizona.edu
