I have never experienced reading a children’s book that I felt as if the story was real. The layout of the text being a newspaper article, made me feel as if these stories are real issues going on right in my neighborhood. Although these stories are stories that children may need to have some prior knowledge of in order to keep up with the story, it may be a great way to introduce these folktales that are told in the US and is an engaging way to introduce the purpose and elements of a newspaper. Many cultures have their own versions of these folktales. Students of other cultures could compare and contrast their versions to these folktales. It is an excellent way of bringing various stories together into one.
