Megan is the author of the New York Times bestselling middle grade novels, Alone and Away, which won multiple awards. In Alone, she chronicles the survival of a girl who finds that everyone around her has unaccountably disappeared in her small town, while in Away, she shows us where they went.

Join Megan for a conversation about her writing process and her movement from a verse novel to a hybrid novel in multiple perspectives and formats to a new novel in prose. She will talk about the role of SCBWI for craft resources and industry support, the role of poetry in her process and the influences that have transformed her writing of each novel over time.

Megan E. Freeman is a National Writing Project teacher, taught the arts and humanities to students in K-16, and is nationally recognized for her workshops across the country. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and lives in northern Colorado.

3:30 – Book signing.

4:00-5:30– Megan shares her experiences and advice about writing and getting published along with the stories behind her bestselling books. Leaders of the Arizona SCBWI will share their resources and upcoming meetings.
