UofA Fusion campers from the kindergarten/first grade group read through David Wiesner’s “Flotsam,” which takes readers on a surreal journey through an underwater world. Flotsam is one of dozens of books on display at Worlds of Words as part of their Visual Narratives exhibit.

Enjoy refreshments, great conversations, time to browse our new exhibit of visual narratives (often called wordless books), and experiences we created around these books.

We are fortunate to have received the traveling International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) Silent Book exhibition, a collection of global visual narratives, but the exhibit will only be here until the first week of August before it returns to Europe. These visual narratives were collected from a range of countries as part of an IBBY project for children in refugee camps in Italy. The focus on visual images, rather than words, invited children from many different cultures and languages to engage with constructing their own stories from the illustrations. Please come to see this set of “silent books” from around the world as well as the experiences we have created to invite children into these books.
