Studio B Portraits
Donna Barba Higuera earned the Newbery Medal for The Last Cuentista, a middle-grade dystopian novel that takes place on a new planet after a comet hits Earth. Petra is the only person who remembers earth and the stories that keep her family alive. Higuera follows the story with Alebrijes, which tells the story of what happened back on Earth. Firesnake is the newest book, published earlier this year, and ties up the stories on the planet Sagan and the cuentista's granddaughter.
Come between 11 and 11:30 a.m. to pick up a book from Campus Stores and have it signed. At 11:30 a.m., join Higuera for a conversation about her writing and the Cuentista trilogy. This event is for educators and authors. (Families with children should join us at 10 a.m. for Higuera's talk with the Middle School Reading Ambassadors.)
RSVPs are encouraged, but not required. You can RSVP using the blue button below.
Donna grew up in Central California surrounded by agricultural and oil fields. As a child, she preferred spending recess in the janitor’s closet with a good book. Her favorite hobbies were calling dial-a-story and sneaking into a cemetery to weave her own spooky tales using the crumbling headstones as inspiration. Donna's Middle Grade and Picture Books are about kids who find themselves in odd or scary situations. Donna likes to write about all things funny, but also sad, and creepy, and magical. She lives in Washington State with her family, two dogs and a frog.
Ticketed parking is available in the Second St. Garage and metered parking is available on the street/surface level through the Passport Mobile Parking app. Worlds of Words Center is also located just off of the 2nd St. Modern Streetcar stop.
