As part of the College of Education's new building sign celebration, the COE will present a commemorative quilt to CRIT Chairwoman Amelia Flores and the Mohave tribal council. The quilt is a joint undertaking to reflect the thoughts, words and intentions of both the Colorado River Indian Tribes and the college.
The Colorado River Indian Tribes language communities have sent their blanket squares, hand decorated by their elders and community members. Now it’s our turn!
The college invites all native students, staff and faculty to join Karine Michael and Patti Cook to create your own quilt squares for the blanket. Supplies are provided to create your own expression of what education, learning, and our communities mean to you.
The COE also invites everyone to stop by to see the quilt in progress, and if you can, add to the quilt by helping iron, pin or sew squares. If you have a portable sewing machine and can sew, we would love your help sewing the blanket together. If you, like Patti, can’t sew, but have an iron, help us get the squares ready for assembly.
The blanket will truly reflect our college community support and appreciation of our shared commitment to education and learning, and our support of our indigenous students on their paths to becoming teachers and education leaders.
pAnd make sure to come to the ceremony on Friday, Sept. 4, at 2:30 PM, now in Kiva Auditorium with a cultural experience outside prior to the unveiling of our new sign.
Ticketed parking is available in the Second St. Garage Street parking and surface level lots should be free. Worlds of Words Center is also located just off of the 2nd St. Modern Streetcar stop.
