THIS EVENT OCCURRED IN THE PAST
Read through the rich & diverse history of Arizona, which includes YOU! This exhibit showcases stories & perspectives of our state, highlighting this beautiful & complex place. “Arizona Is a Story” is organized around four themes, each providing a unique take on our history & environment.
Explore the stories that Arizonans represent from the original Indigenous inhabitants through the many communities who live here today. These stories provide a glimpse into the cultural & social histories of the state & shed light on the experiences of those who have called Arizona home over the centuries.
Delve into stories of the flora & fauna of Arizona. From the towering saguaro to the spirited Wildcats, the state is home to a wide range of plant & animal life. This exhibit shares their survival strategies & the ways they shaped the landscape of Arizona over time.
Read the stories of the landscape itself. From the dramatic sunsets in the Sonoran Desert to the spectacular vistas of the Grand Canyon to the surprising snowfall in our mountain ranges, Arizona boasts stunning natural features. The exhibit invites inquiry around the processes that shaped the state’s landscape & displays the beauty & diversity of our terrain.
Journey through the stories told by the maps of Arizona. With our shifting borders, the state has been mapped & remapped over the centuries. The exhibit includes illuminating maps of Arizona & explores the ways in which these maps shape our perceptions of the state & its history.
The WOW Center encourages critical questions about these stories. By exploring through questions, we gain deeper understandings of the stories that make up Arizona & find a new appreciation for this fascinating place.
Paid parking is available at the Second Street Garage just west of the UArizona College of Education. Surface lots and street parking should be free on Saturdays when no other UArizona event is occurring. The WOW Center is also located just off of the 2nd St. Streetcar stop, which is also free.
